ROBOUST, The Evil robot maker

When Estthe Mefille was invited to create the characters for the latest animated movie "ROBOUST, The Evil robot-maker" he immediately consider reply negatively having in mind still the past frustration with "Borda - The Pumpkin Clown". But a lot of lame excuses and financial convincing prompted this incredible gifted artist to give it a second go and draw those that would end up making of "ROBOUST, The evil robot-maker" an enormous cinematographic success.

With only two weeks given for his amazing creative spell to generate a series of unforgettable original drawings, the project had a lot of other constraints that would invariably clash with the freedom Estthe Mefille needs to peacefully invest on his productions. 

"ROBOUST, The evil robot-maker" was released in the independent circuit back in January 2018 and won the Best Animated Picture in the 'Sundamn Festival'. We give you here those characters that made both pre-production phase and actual movie, and also add a review on the plot and characters to sharpen your appetitite.

Excelsior (The Perfect One)

The perfect creation by the evil robot-maker Roboust. Excelsior was stolen from Roboust belongings by the mean alien Obi-Wan Kanabis and yet another Roboust initial creations, the ugly Barrooom. Barrooom could never forgive Roboust for his horrible lookings and conspired with Obi-Wan Kanabis to steal and recycle Excelsior for good.

Barrooom (The Horrible One)

A reject. One of the primary creations of Roboust when he was just an engineering student. Roboust never appreciated the worth of Barrooom and discarded him to the depths of a warehouse, however, even though his looks were never that great, Barrooom was Roboust's only creation that came out with a real soul.

Obi-Wan Kanabis (The Smokey Alien)

Initially not intended to be in the movie, Obi-Wan Kanabis was a joke-drawing by Estthe Mefille just to despise the madness surrounding Star Wars. A fusion between Jar Jar Binks and a Stormtrooper, this characters never speaks and all it releases is yellowish smoke whilst taking the most bizarre unexpected decisions. A pretty accomplished comic relief for this animated motion picture.

Goatie (The Mean Pranker)

He is not a bad guy, but he ain't happy either. So whenever he is out there taking care of his errands and the chance presents itself, he takes the opportunity to make anyone pay for he is a mean prankster. From stealing candies from babies to flattening tires, no prank is left undone. But he would never imagine that one of his simplest and most innocent pranks would actually be in the Heart of how this story unveils.

Vampiresk (The Dumb One)

Vampiresk has always aspired to become The Thing. But his poor electronic board is very limited and cannot process a whole lot of information, so he decided to drain the memory boards of other robots and show his creator, Roboust (the evil robot maker) that he also can achieve greater things and help him conquer the Universe. 

The Satelikos (a band of melodic robots)

The Satelikos (some real old fashioned satellites produced in the past by the evil engineer Roboust) are the musical festival that any animated movie lives on. Whenever there is an emotional or festive part in the movie, or whenever there is a lesson to be learned by anyone of the characters, there they are to bring music to that moment. In addition, they're the story tellers, narrating it with such a funny flow that this movie without The Satelikos wouldn't be the same thing.

Bubblisko (The younger brother of  Vampiresk)

With only a very short participation in the movie, Bubblisko is only trying to demote his brother from his wrongdoing and to raise his attention to the fact that he has a family that considers him important, regardless of his limited intelligence.

Benjamin HO123 (The recycled one, made out of parts from previous Tim Burton's creations)

This is the character that let us know by the end of the movie that there will probably be a sequel to this first chapter of Roboust, The Evil robot-maker. Benjamin HO123 was a secret project by Roboust, entirely made of discarded parts of props obtained from Tim Burton's movies. This character has no real emotional dimension and the audience can seldom hear him speak, but whenever he's present the story takes a turn and the audience is made aware that he is playing a big part on the whole narrative. However, his real intentions whilst helping both sides, the good and bad, are never disclosed and leave us wanting the second chapter to make it to the cinemas as soon as possible.

This shit is no rocket science

Short description: The second masterpiece to receive global appraisal for its impeccable artistic criticism on the fact that governmental agencies produce counter-information. Like the American moon landing was allegedly staged, Mefille created and operated a sculpture that reenacts that same event and adds humor and sarcasm to the fact that, when these intelligence agencies want, even tinfoil rockets can land on the moon... and only certain people wish not to see the facts. This piece of art was banned from the United States and so was the artist up until 2013 when a governmental delegation decided to apologise and lift the ban on Eshtte Meffille's creations.

Love causes ageing marks

Short description: The very first sculpture Mefille produced for his debut sculpture exhibition in 1984 entitled "Escapetours 1984". Released to the public on the so called Valentines day, the piece he so reluctantly called "Love causes ageing marks" was an unexpected success. Meffile described the piece in a quick interview where the statements "crack marks caused by loving so deeply" and "deep vein thromboembolism as a side effect to love" were applauded by the many visitors. The piece now is part of a collector's personal estate in Philadelphia since 2013.

Short description: We talk of a series of frames and sketches that were produced by Esthe Meffille back in the 80s for the TV show 'Aliens, Monsters and Ugly People' that unfortunately never aired. And the reason behind such decision taken by the broadcaster's board of directors is allegedly linked to the fact that the artist wanted all of these frames and sketches to be out-of-focus. Why? The artist suggested that since whenever people assume they have seen an alien or UFO no proper image can undoubtedly identify the object or living thing, it is then almost compulsory to provide people with a show about aliens where the audience can barely see the definition of the images shown. It is a bit of a 'taste your own poison' approach. The artist once said, when interviewed about the show being dropped out, "People assume that aliens, supposedly and per people's general perception, to be more technologically advanced and intelligent, and to visit the Earth now and then to play freaking peekaboo with our cameras. I think it's fair to pay homage to this incapacity of ours to see things properly when it's convenient the other way 'round".

Alka Seltza

Short description: Now that near-death experiences are becoming increasingly reported by those who face life and death situations, by the media who promote ever more shows on the topic as like the famous "OA" still available on smart tele, it was very important to gather the opinion of artists on the topic. Eshtte Mefille decided to participate in this public appeal for evidence and recreated the ethereal/physical moment when that 'whooshing' sound bursts out loud and the soul leaves the body. A soul de-fragmented into bubbles of experiences collected during our physical life, evading from the depths of the earthly realm represented by the brownish horizontal layers of land.

Short description: A very prolific someone once said "Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilisation". If you, as a spectator cannot distill Gandhi's words from this perfect primal scream of quality produced by Eshtte Mefille, than you need intellectual and emotional glasses right away. The red human stain crossing the river delta that tenuously invades the dry sands of the desert, the blobs of dark that spread like a hypha, slowly multiplying, however divided by a conquering orange like a geographical neoplasm. And then, remarkably humble, the dashes and hints of tiny little mixtures that produce the world that we know today. Still adapting to the cultural diversity. Still struggling to find a common ground of senses and light... that it's arising, confidently, as a trace of thick white. This is a masterpiece of the human evolution as a whole in the world that we've known since ever, but that has gained far more solubility with the electronic advances of an interconnected web of people.

She sells sanctuary

Short description: No, this is not a homage to the 80's 90's band The Cult. 'She sells sanctuary' is a gift from a bother to his sister where Mefille reveals his softer side, his emotional side, and his huge commitment to protecting his sibling. The artist decided to make this effort public as a way of demonstrating all his care and affection, usually so well hidden behind a labyrinth construction of ideas his frames do not easily mirror. The angelical realm of feathers and the lively printing of hands touching this very same realm is just too simple and yet too clever. The different colors also aid to the precious gems that resemble a kingdom of wealth and sobriety.
